What support managers and ATS screens look for in a customer service resume

Customer service hiring runs on tools and numbers. Name every platform in full โ€” Zendesk, Salesforce Service Cloud, Freshdesk, Intercom, Five9, Genesys Cloud, ServiceNow, Gainsight โ€” because an ATS matches the literal string, not the category. Then attach metrics to each role: CSAT, first-contact resolution, average handle time, SLA compliance, schedule adherence, QA audit score. Volume counts as well, since tickets or calls handled daily proves capacity.

The three tracks here split on credentials. Help desk roles filter for CompTIA A+, ITIL Foundation, Active Directory, and Tier 1/Tier 2 language; customer success roles filter for net revenue retention, churn, renewals, QBRs, and book-of-business ARR. Put certifications in their own section, and mirror the posting's exact wording โ€” first-call resolution when the ad says that, first-contact resolution when it does not. Tables of KPIs and badge graphics lose keywords; stay single column.

Customer Service resume questions, answered

How long should a customer service resume be?

One page. Support, call center, and help desk roles are high-volume screens, and a second page rarely survives. Customer success managers with seven or more years and a large book of business can run to two. Cut early retail duties before cutting metrics, and keep everything in a single column so the parser reads top to bottom.

Where should CompTIA A+, ITIL, or HDI certifications go on a help desk resume?

In a dedicated Certifications section under your experience, written the way the issuer writes them: CompTIA A+, ITIL 4 Foundation, HDI Support Center Analyst, Salesforce Certified Administrator, Google IT Support Professional Certificate. If a posting lists one as required, add it beside your name in the header too. Do not park credentials in a sidebar or text box, which parsers drop.

How do you list bilingual or multilingual support skills?

Give languages their own short line in the skills section with a proficiency level: Spanish, fluent; Mandarin, conversational. Bilingual support is often a scored requirement, so use the word the ad uses โ€” bilingual, Spanish-speaking, or the language by name. Then prove it in a bullet: the share of your queue handled in that language, or the channel you covered.

What if your employer does not release CSAT or AHT numbers?

Use what you can defend: ticket or call volume per shift, queues and channels covered, escalations resolved without a supervisor, backlog cleared, knowledge-base articles written, new hires trained. Relative figures work when absolute ones are protected โ€” resolution time cut roughly in half, QA scores above team average. Keep the KPI names in the text, since an ATS still matches CSAT, AHT, and SLA.
