Education hiring screens for credentials before experience. District systems filter on a state teaching license, its endorsement or subject code, and Praxis or state exam status; counseling and administrator postings filter on a school counseling license or administrative certificate; faculty postings filter on the terminal degree in the discipline. Put those in a Certifications and Licenses block under the summary, with issuing state and Active status.
After that, committees read for scale and growth. State the grade levels, subject, class size, caseload, or course load you carried, then the movement you produced: reading-level gains, AP pass rates, IEP goal attainment, college application completion, advising retention. Spell out tools and frameworks — Google Classroom, i-Ready, Canvas, PowerSchool, Banner, PBIS, Common Core — because filters match text, not implication. A closing Professional Development section keeps recertification hours visible.
Education resume questions, answered
How long should a teacher resume be, and when is an academic CV expected instead?
Keep K-12 applications to one or two pages; district reviewers move fast and the ATS parses either length equally. Tenure-track and research faculty postings expect a full academic CV, where publications, grants, and courses taught justify more pages. Adjunct and community college postings usually sit in between — two pages, with a Publications and Presentations section only if the posting mentions scholarship.
Where do teaching licenses and endorsements go on a resume?
Give them a dedicated Certifications and Licenses section directly beneath the summary, and repeat the credential in the header line under the name. Include issuing state, endorsement or subject area, Active status, and expiration year. Use the exact title the posting uses, such as Professional Educator License or Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. Keep it in the single-column flow; sidebars and text boxes often parse out.
Should student test scores and caseload numbers go on an education resume?
Yes, in aggregate. Report class or cohort figures — average reading-level gain, AP pass rate movement, IEP goal attainment, caseload size, application completion rate — never anything identifying an individual student, which FERPA forbids. Frame each result as a move from a starting figure to an ending figure within a stated school year, and be ready to name the source in the interview.
Does an education resume need a photo or a teaching portfolio link?
No photo. Parsers read text, not images, so a headshot contributes nothing to the match and adds layout that can break extraction. A portfolio, teaching philosophy, or lesson-sample link belongs in the contact line as a plain visible URL, not hidden behind linked text, so both the parser and the reviewer can see the address.
